No. While our clinic specializes in LGBTQ mental health, we believe in providing top-notch care for everyone who walks through our doors— cis, straight, and allies included. So no matter who you are, you can trust that we're committed to helping you thrive. Nevertheless, we are a neurodivergent, person of color owned practice and seek to serve those who have specially may have been turned away elsewhere, felt unheard by their providers, or feel like they’ve never received mental health treatment that really cared for them. Our practice brings back the soul and heart to psychiatry, and blends in elements of building wellness habits for a lifetime.

Unfortunately at this time Wellthy Psychiatry and Wellness does not accept any insurance.
For out-of-network and private pay, we’re happy to provide a super bill, receipts, and any documentation that your PPO insurance may require for reimbursement. Please contact your insurance company prior to scheduling an appointment to see if you are eligible for reimbursement.

Integrative psychiatry takes a holistic approach to mental health, considering the interconnectedness of the mind, body, and spirit. It aims to minimize the use of medications when possible, opting for a balanced approach that considers the benefits and potential risks associated with medication use. It combines traditional psychiatric treatments with complementary therapies, such as nutrition, exercise, mindfulness, and other mind-body practices.
Integrative psychiatry emphasizes the importance of lifestyle modifications, including sleep, stress management, and healthy habits. It recognizes the potential benefits of evidence-based complementary approaches like acupuncture, yoga, meditation, and herbal supplements into treatment plans.

A nurse practitioner (NP) is an advanced practice nurse who combines clinical expertise with a holistic, patient-centered approach. NPs complete advanced education and training, allowing them to assess patients, make diagnoses, order and interpret tests, prescribe medications, and create individualized treatment plans. We work collaboratively with physicians, therapists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive care that addresses both mental and physical well-being.

The distinction lies in training and perspective. Psychiatrists are medical doctors with extensive training in medicine and mental health, able to diagnose and treat psychiatric conditions with a full range of medical interventions.
Psychiatric nurse practitioners, like myself, are advanced practice nurses with specialized expertise in mental health. Beyond assessing and treating mental health conditions, we often bring a holistic, patient-centered lens, incorporating therapy, lifestyle considerations, and support for life transitions. We can prescribe medications, provide counseling, and tailor care to each individual’s unique needs.
My approach emphasizes understanding the whole person—mind, body, and identity. As an LGBTQ+ clinician, I prioritize creating a safe, affirming space where patients can explore their mental health, identity, and life challenges without judgment.

Seeing a psychiatric provider is a sensitive issue that people can be understandably concerned or wary about. I assure you that what is said in our sessions, and the treatment plan we design together, will be kept completely confidential. The only situations in which I am required to release information without your explicit permission are emergencies, like: if you are at risk of harming yourself, if you are at risk of hurting someone else or have named someone you're planning to hurt, or if a child or elderly person is being abused. Otherwise, no one - not your family, your primary care or other provider, your employer, your insurance company - no one will be given any information about our sessions, including whether or not I even see you as a patient - unless you give me permission.
If you will be billing your insurance company for reimbursement, I may be asked to provide the insurer some information - usually a diagnosis code and how long our sessions last - but only if you request that I do this. I will not provide information to anyone without you first signing a document granting me per mission to do so (release of information)

Please note that I do not prescribe benzodiazepines (clonazepam/klonopin, lorazepam/ativan, alprazolam/xanax, etc.), Z-drugs (Zolpidem: Ambien) Eszopiclone: (Lunesta) Zaleplon: (Sonata) for the first 3 months of treatment. At minimum, a well-documented (medical records, pharmacy list, medication bottle) history of safely taking prescribed benzodiazepines, a release of information allowing me to consult with previous providers, and a clean record on the California Controlled Substance Utilization Record database is required before I consider including a benzodiazepine in your treatment plan, and even then, there is no guarantee.
Stimulants will be prescribed if there is a clear ADHD indication, other diagnoses have been ruled out, and only if multiple non-stimulant options were documented to have been failed and been trialled (Strattera, Intuniv, Wellbutrin).

For refills: generally I provide established patients who are stable on their medication regimen with prescriptions for 90 days (or more). Those patients who are in early or transitional phases of their treatment plan should expect to have office visits at least monthly until we mutually decide that your medication regimen is set. Medication refill requests should be sent through the Patient Portal.
I do not provide refills in between visits for insurance clients, even for non controlled substances. A visit must be made and the refill will be done during that appointment.
Medication refill requests for controlled substances may only occur during a scheduled appointment— I do not fill controlled substances unless we meet at an appointment or unless previously agreed upon.
